an audacious goal

Dear Friend,
Or is it crushin’ me! If so, it’s with delight. Our artists and their undertakings are irresistible. And that made 2025 about as busy/happy as a year could be:
January first meeting of the 2025 Audrey Residents launches a year of conversation—and a skating rink in The Room… February an Obie for Ariel Stess and her KARA & EMMA & BARBARA & MIRANDA, presented In Collaboration with New Georges, a support for self-producing artists… April Emma Horwitz & Bailey Williamsʼ TWO SISTERS FIND A BOX OF LESBIAN EROTICA IN THE WOODS is the talk of the town… May I hustle down to DC in the service of Julia Izumi’s AKIRA KUROSAWA EXPLAINS HIS MOVIES AND YOGURT (with live & active cultures!) at Woolly Mammoth n partnership with New Georges…
…June Lincoln Center Theater announces the return of Julia May Jonasʼ A WOMAN AMONG WOMEN, next spring at LCT3… September at our benefit, the Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment names us inaugural recipient of the “Made in NY” Fund for New Theatrical Works… Finally, fall: two more shows In Collaboration…, The Jam preps for next spring’s JAMboree, and I perform an annual event: the writing of this letter.
New Georges does two things, and pretty well: Theater Projects (shows you get to see) and Artist Platform (programs, resources, community, conversation). Plenty of overlap there, in the form of investment, as demonstrated by the nifty roadmap. And impact, which increases when process leads to production.
Which is more frequent these days (see “irresistible,” above). Like most developments in our 33-year history, that’s been an organic shift, evolving with opportunity and the state of the field. Our producing palette now includes partners of all shapes and sizes, both theaters (bigger and smaller; in NYC and out) and New Georges artists who (wisely, from our perspective) produce their work themselves. It’s thrilling (see “delight,” above) to produce more projects we love, extending visibility and reach—and our artists’ audacious theatrical vision—beyond our core communities. These are critical contributions in a time of cultural retreat.
Artists, collaborators, audience, YOU. These are the best “core communities” we can imagine. Especially YOU: providing inspiration for our work and often the means to make it happen. We therefore conclude this fun/fruitful year (see “crushin’ it,” above) by stating a worthy goal: to raise $75,000 by December 31. This is where YOU come in.
Keep us busy! Aim your phone at the box below, or head to www.newgeorges.org.
Thank you. We’re beyond excited to share 2026 with you.
