We are absolutely thrilled to be among 63 recipients of the first round of “Made in NYC” Women’s Film, TV and Theatre Fund grants from The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, administered by NYFA, and presented February 28 at the Daryl Roth Theater (see Jaynie and Deadria with theater panelist Daphne Rubin-Vega and with recipients from all disciplines below!).
Our grant, received with project partners The Movement Theatre Company, supports a 2020 co-production of Colette Robert’s delightful and smart exploration of black debutante ball culture, The Harriet Holland Social Club Presents the 84th Annual Star-Burst Cotillion in the Grand Ballroom of the Renaissance Hotel — which got its start in New Georges’ Audrey Residency Program. Colette is primarily a director, but Harriet Holland turned her into a maker! A member and co-facilitator of The New Georges Jam, she most recently directed New York Times Critic’s Pick Behind the Sheet by fellow Jammer Charly Evon Simpson in an extended run at Ensemble Studio Theatre.
